MGM has put its chips on Chloe Grace Moretz, despite "Carrie" not scaring up much box office over the past couple of weeks. Production begins October 30 on “If I Stay," adapted from Gayle Forman's bestselling YA novel, starring Moretz and Jamie Blackley (“Snow White and The Huntsmen”).

R.J. Cutler ("The September Issue," “Nashville”) is directing. The cast also includes Mireille Enos (“The Killing,” "World War Z") and Stacy Keach (“Nebraska”).

The official synopsis (below) is fairly inscrutable, but the novel apparently centers on a teen girl, Mia, thrown into a coma following a horrific car accident. While in the coma, Mia has an out-of-body experience, where she watches her loved ones gather at the hospital, and is confronted with the choice to wake up or die.

The film follows Mia (Moretz), who at age 16 has everything: a loving family, an adoring boyfriend, and a bright future full of music. Suddenly, a family drive on a snowy day changes everything. In an instant, almost all of that is taken from her. Caught between life and death, Mia spends one critical day contemplating her destiny, which is now more unknowable than ever. Is her soul mate’s love enough to keep her here? Tragic but ultimately hopeful, this is a romantic, riveting and uplifting story about music, life and love.

Also in the pipeline for MGM is the “Poltergeist” reboot, starring Sam Rockwell and Rosemarie Dewitt, with Fox 2000, and most recently wrapped is Brett Ratner's Paramount production of “Hercules,” starring Herculean-proportioned ubiquitous action star Dwayne Johnson. “The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug" is on the horizon with New Line Cinema/Warner Bros., and “RoboCop” with Columbia.
