After heading to the black-and-white prairies of "Nebraska," Alexander Payne is next eyeing India. The director and Fox Searchlight are in talks to team on "The Judge's Will," based on prolific Merchant-Ivory screenwriter Ruth Prawer Jhabvala's final published work in the New Yorker before her death earlier this year, which centers on the relationship between an ailing Delhi judge and his lovely Bombay wife.

In the story, which was published in March, the judge and his wife carry out separate lives despite living under the same roof. The judge wants to make sure one of his final acts is ensuring the care of his younger, hardly educated mistress.

Conde Nast Entertainment will produce.

"Nebraska" hits theaters November 22. Watch the trailer here.
