The cast also includes Naveen Andrews ("Lost") as heart surgeon Dr. Hasnat Khan and Charles Edwards as Patrick Jephson, senior royal aide and author of 2001 tell-all "Shadows of a Princess: An Intimate Account by Her Private Secretary." The film focuses primarily on Diana's affair with Khan, which lasted from 1995 until a few months before her death in 1997.
News of Watts starring in the film broke in February of 2012; we conducted a poll to assess people's reactions to Watts portraying the beloved icon (it was largely supportive).
German director Hirschbiegel's credits include 2004's Best Foreign-Language Oscar nominee "Downfall," 2007's "The Invasion" with Nicole Kidman and Daniel Craig, and 2009's "Five Minutes of Heaven" with Liam Neeson.
