Jane Campion is one of many filmmakers turning to TV as it becomes tougher to get smart dramas funded. New Zealand-set BBC/Sundance Channel mini-series "Top of The Lake" is scheduled to air in 2013. At MIPCOM, Campion declared that her return to TV gave her "a lot of respect" for the people working in the medium, and she's prepared to do more television with a similar project set in Thailand.
"Top of The Lake" stars "Mad Men"'s Elisabeth Moss as a detective who investigates the disappearance of a young pregnant girl who is the daughter of a local drug lord. Holly Hunter, who won her Oscar starring in Campion's masterful "The Piano," also appears in the series. Campion's last film, the under-appreciated "Bright Star," was in 2009.
