Silicon Valley pillars will join together in Washington to form a lobbying group in order to oppose federal restrictions to their industry. A group like this is the first in the Web's history. Called 'The Internet Association,' the roster includes Facebook, Google, Yahoo, LinkedIn, Zynga, and Amazon. Microsoft and Apple are notably missing. The association aims to continue their successful fight against anti-piracy -- particularly against the two bills known as SOPA and PIPA. The Washington Post notes that Google has already spent nearly $9 million on lobbying in the first two quarters of 2012. The Hill reports that Michael Beckerman, the association's CEO, said that the Stop Online Piracy Act was a “wakeup call" to the group's members to join forces.
