Laika, the Portland-based animation studio behind the Oscar-nominated "Coraline," has named Mary Sandell as the their new head of production.  A producer on "Coraline," Ms. Sandell is a production executive and producer with over twenty years of experience managing high-profile commercials, feature films and television series.  She joined LAIKA in 2005, after spending two years as producer of DreamWorks’ primetime animated series for NBC, "Father of the Pride."

Laika is currently in production on its second 3-D stop-motion animated feature film, "ParaNorman," directed by Sam Fell and Chris Butler, from Butler's original screen-play, which Focus Features will release August 17.  Laika also recently just optioned Philip Reeve's quirky kids novels 'Goblins.'
