In the latest edition of Film Comment, Arnold says she never wanted to do a period film, but "once the idea was presented to me, [she] became posessed." The project had been in development, but once she boarded she "pretty much started from scratch," rewriting and recasting it. She adds, "I think it was accepted that it was going to be my concept." And it's quite a concept, bold and uncompromising in its direction.
Watch the new trailer below. The film debuts October 12 in New York and Los Angeles. We caught it at the Seattle Int'l Film Fest.

As a fan of Andrea Arnold, I was very excited to hear that she was directing Wuthering Heights. Her adaption looks incredibly unique and I think her bold choices will work out for the better. After seeing this trailer, a co-worker at Dish and I grew curious of the other versions. So we decided to rent them from Blockbuster @Home, ordering them by mail and exchanging in the store worked so well with our busy schedules. It has been interesting to see the various ways that Cathy and Heathcliff have been portrayed in cinema. So far this adaption seems to best capture the sullen tone of such a tragic story, but I canât wait to see and decide for myself.
