The latest iteration of the Twilight franchise, Eclipse, busted the series' own record for midnight box office hauls. The vampire teen film opened last night at 4,000 venues, raking in an estimated $30 million, $3.7 million over New Moon, according to Summit.

IMAX set some new records of their own, exceeding $1 million in their 192 midnight showings. Variety reports that Eclipse ran midnight showings in twelve countries, including Mexico, and that the late night revenue is an appreciable portion of the film's projected earnings. Eclipse will bump up against Last Airbender July 2nd, but that film serves an entirely different target market, namely teenage boys.
