Sony Pictures Classics Takes Redford's Venice & Toronto Bound 'The Company You Keep'

Sony Pictures Classics has taken U.S. rights to Robert Redford's upcoming Weather Underground drama "The Company You Keep." The movie boasts an impressive cast: Redford, Shia LeBeouf, Julie Christie, Brendan Gleeson, Terence Howard, Richard Jenkins, Anna Kendrick, Brit Marling, Stanley Tucci, Nick Nolte, Chris Cooper, and Susan Sarandon.

Erik Van Looy's Men Behaving Badly Pic 'Loft' Goes to Dark Castle Entertainment

Erik Van Looy's English-language remake of his own 2008 Belgian infidelity thriller, "Loft," has been acquired by Joel Silver's Dark Castle Entertainment. According to Vlaamse Film's Facebook announcement, distribution will go through Dark Horse's WB output deal, even though Silver has moved on to Universal.

Sundance Selects Picks Up Mulloy's Cuban-Set Tribeca Winner 'Una Noche'

Lucy Mulloy's "Una Noche" has gone to Sundance Selects for North American distribution. The film debuted at Berlin, then Tribeca where it won Best New Narrative Director, Best Cinematography in a Narrative Feature and Best Actor in a Narrative Feature for stars Dariel Arrechada and Javier Nuñez Florian. The film follows three Cuban teens (Anailin de la Rua de la Torre also stars) over the course of a day, highlighting the contrast between their poverty-stricken lives and tourists who visit.

Cohen Media Group to Release Italian Oscar-Entry 'Terraferma' (video)

"Terraferma," Italy's 2011 Oscar entry, will be released in the US by Cohen Media Group, which recently released "The Lady," and will open "Farewell, My Queen" July 13.

Tribeca Takes So Yong Kim's 'For Ellen,' with Paul Dano, Jon Heder & Jena Malone

Writer-director So Yong Kim’s "For Ellen," which premiered at Sundance, goes to Tribeca Film for North American distribution. The film opens September 5 at NYC's Film Forum, followed by a limited theatrical and VOD release. Paul Dano plays a rock star who unknowingly gives away custody of his six-year-old daughter when he signs divorce papers from his estranged wife. Jon Heder and Jena Malone co-star.

Goldwyn Acquires Global Warming Doc The Island President

The Toronto Film Fest doc audience award-winner The Island President has been acquired by Samuel Goldwyn Films for stateside release in February 2012. The film will be screened at DOC NYC on Tuesday November 8, followed by a Q and A with director Jon Shenk by Michael Moore. Goldwyn has acquired all ancillary U.S. rights including theatrical and home video. The movie follows President Mohamed Nasheed of the Maldives as he struggles to save his Indian Ocean island archipelago from climate change that threatens to literally drown his country.
