We're in the thick of the Oscar race now. In this week's Oscar Talk podcast, In Contention's Kris Tapley and Guy Lodge and I discuss the real contest between Annette Bening and Natalie Portman, whether Melissa Leo's glam ads are opening up the field in supporting actress, and how the Nominees Lunch and the upcoming BAFTAs on Sunday give us a sense of where the races are tipping.

NP certainly did not lose it at the reporter. His/her question was inappropriate and she let him know it. This will certainly not hurt her in the race.

I understand the love Anne feels for Annette...but c'mon.

Natalie didn't snap at the reporters. And even if it was a small rebuke, she's pregnant!

At the end of the day, her performance is the best of any actor (male or female) this year. And she will win.

I love this blog. Interesting Podcast. Agree 100% percent with the Supporting Actress category, Leo blew it and now if Steinfeld is smart (I mean her PR team) then she should go for it. As an audience member I am turned off by what she did. I mean I loved her performance in "The Fighter" but when I saw her face and the way she posed and how she is wearing fur. It just looks cheap, unclassy, uncharacteristic, and with a fellow nominee such as Amy Adams who has been nominated more times than she has, not cool.
