In Episode 5 of Oscar Talk, In Contention's Kris Tapley and I discuss possible hosts and producers for the Oscarcast, the strength and weakness of the Best Actress category, and whether Peter Sarsgaard should be considered lead or supporting actor for An Education, which opens Friday.

    As far as hosts go, I think there is a formula that works, especially with Billy Crystal and Bob Hope. It's not that they are actors or comedians or what not. They are entertainers and that is what you need. However, you also need someone who is really popular in cinema, who will draw the younger audience they haven't been getting. I'm not saying Seth Rogen, but I think the Apatow gang could pull it off especially if you balance them with Steve Carrell or Paul Rudd. As much as I love Will Ferrell and Jack Black; there humor may wear out. Ideally, I would choose John C. Reilly. He has a little bit of everything.

    The playlist was going on about how Sarsgaard's accent went in and out. I guess I'll wait to see, but that's disappointing to hear. no pun intended.
