Franco and Hathaway both shined--along with Alec Baldwin and Morgan Freeman--in the hilarious opening short directed by Troy Miller, including Hathaway's shedding brown duck outfit by costume designer Jane Ruhm.
Kris and I also cover the Oscar party circuit, and both vote the Weinsteins' Saturday night Soho House bash the best of the lot, although the Governor's Ball came close.
We'll be taking a hiatus until the Cannes Film Fest in May.
Life has a great Oscar night photo gallery. The Guardian has some good Oscar video.

Anne, I think your suggestion for Sandra Bullock to host is interesting. I never found her to be funny or entertaining for that matter but anything is better than over eager Anne and semi-stoned Franco. My vote goes for Conan or Joel McHale... comedians who are actually funny and can do the job. They don't need to be scripted... but Sandra, I don't know if she could do it on her own without a genius script backing her up (which I think we can agree that the writers of the show lack any semblance of skill and/or comic relief). I hope they make some BIG changes next year because after such a lackluster show, the ratings are doomed.

Sandra Bullock may be a good host, but if the writing and production is bad , no host can save the Oscar telecast.

Sandra Bullock is a great rec for Host. I second that.
