In Contention's Kris Tapley, refreshed after a sojourn from his labors, and I reconvene for a summer edition of Oscar Talk. We cover the lacklustre spring season, look forward to Cannes and the summer, and dissect Iron Man 2.
I second that. Great to have your Oscar chat back. . . I just saw the Swedish sensation The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo and it blew me away. A stunning film, the kind of rich noirish fare that Hollywood once upon a time knew how to create. Sadly not anymore. Every minute was riveting. Noomi Rapace gives a savage performance that will be hard for any actress in 2010 to approach let alone equal. . . I understand that Hollywood producers are considering remaking in English. Please, please DON'T. An American version would surely be trivialized into a fanboy wet dream.
Welcome back, Anne and Kris - always good to hear your views and news. . . . looking forward to your blogs from Cannes, Anne . . . . . i've been having a mini Hal Ashby revival, to off-set the lousy summer fare, and what a talent! Great that his first film, The Landlord, is finally on DVD. Boy, do i miss the 70s. . . .
