The Producers Guild of America (PGA) has selected its motion picture and long-form television nominations for the 24th Annual Producers Guild Awards. The 2013 Chair is Michael De Luca. All 2013 Producers Guild Award winners will be announced on January 26th at the Beverly Hilton Hotel. The nominees are often closely watched as harbingers of strength and weakness for the Oscars.

The PGA top ten features suggest that indies "Moonrise Kingdom," "Beasts of the Southern Wild" and "Django Unchained" are in the running, along with studio film "Skyfall," which is a big surprise. The PGA continues with a top ten list, while the Academy is now asking for five picks from Academy members that will factor in best picture nominations that could be as few as five or as many as ten. Films that are looking stronger for Oscar acting nods than best picture contention include "The Sessions," "The Master," "Flight" and "Best Exotic Marigold Hotel." The slightly snobbier Academy could prove more enamored of "Amour" than the PGA. Brit contender "Anna Karenina" may have to settle for tech mentions.

The theatrical motion picture nominees are for The Darryl F. Zanuck Award for Outstanding Producer of Theatrical Motion Pictures:

Are 'The Master' and 'The Dark Knight Rises' finished in terms of getting a Best Picture Oscar nomination?

  • MattS | January 4, 2013 8:50 AM

The Master, and I'd say even Amour, still have a chance at getting a nom. But TDKR has ZERO chances.

One needn't be a snob to support "Amour." But a vote for "Marigold Hotel" indicates a cry for help, and not just with online balloting.
