Hurricane Sandy is ravaging the Northeast, with New York and New Jersey being declared disaster areas amidst casualties, a massive power outage, six-alarm fires and flooded public transportation. Meanwhile, as lives, homes and daily routines are severely affected, the social media landscape has also been taken by storm. Below, a web roundup of all things Sandy.

-NBC News reports that Sandy's devastation in the Northeast has left at least 10 people dead, with an additional 7 million plunged into darkness with a power outage. Transportation is down too, with flooded NYC subways reportedly out of commission for at least the next 4 or 5 days. UPDATE: The New York Times reports that at least 40 are dead from Hurricane Sandy.

-New York and New Jersey have been declared disaster areas, with six-alarm fires burning in a historic section of Queens. Filming has been canceled for October 30 in all NY boroughs. NYSE and Broadway are also closed.

-Meanwhile, fake Hurricane Sandy photos have been inundating social media outlets such as Twitter, Instagram and Tumblr. The Atlantic is sourcing a list of these viral photos, with clear delineation of which are authentic and which are fake. Meanwhile, a Tumblr has been started titled "Is Twitter Wrong?," keeping a tally of the bogus images circulating in the wake of Sandy.

-While social media explodes, the internet is hurting, with reports that Gawker Media, Mediaite, Huffington Post and Buzzfeed were all temporarily out for the count as Sandy continues to blow through the Northeast.

-Following Netflix's 13% shares jump on October 26 due to rumors of Microsoft buyout, the company is seeing a streaming boost among its subscribers, as people affected by Sandy remain holed up in their homes, waiting for the storm to abate. Netflix reports that its streaming service went up 20% on October 28 and 29.
