Spike Lee to Receive Jaeger-LeCoultre Award at Venice Film Fest

Along with premiering his out-of-competition Michael Jackson documentary "Bad 25" at the Venice Film Festival (August 29 - September 8), Spike Lee will also be honored by the fest with the Jaeger-LeCoultre Glory to the Filmmaker Award.

The award, which has previously gone to artists as disparate as Takeshi Kitano, Abbas Kiarostami and Sylvester Stallone, recognizes a filmmaker or actor's unique contribution to and signature on contemporary film. Venice artistic director Alberto Barbera describes Lee's films as "audacious and scathing... unpredictable and provocative in the best sense of the word."

"Bad at 25" focuses on the 25th anniversary of Jackson's "Bad" album, and screens on August 31. Lee has a history of having worked with Jackson, as he directed two videoclips for the musician's songs ("They Don't Care About Us" in 1997, and "This Is It" in 2009).
