I finally caught up with Kenny Ortega's Michael Jackson rehearsal film, This is It. I see why people like it so much--Jackson still had more chops than most people dream of. But the movie's strength--its bare-bones straight-on simplicity--is a weakness for Oscar voters. I don't see them loving the filmmaking so passionately that they put it on their Oscar ballot.

Described as a This Is It trailer (for the single), this odd little Spike Lee joint is more of a reminiscence and homage to Jackson:

Spike's joint is the official music video to the single "This Is It" and was released over the xmas holiday. The official trailers to "This Is It" - the movie - were released before the movie opened October 28.

The music video mixes mostly previously unseen footage with fans' reactions after Michael Jackson's death - it makes it more personal, moving & elegaic, while the movie celebrated the living Michael.
