Oscar producers Bruce Cohen and Don Mischer announce that Steve Bass will serve as production designer for the 83rd Academy Awards show on February 27, 2011, at Hollywood's Kodak Theatre.

This will be Bass's first Oscar show, though he recently worked with Mischer on the 62nd Primetime Emmy Awards, Obama's Inaugural Celebration at the Lincoln Memorial, and 2004's Democratic National Convention. Bass has been nominated for six Emmys and won two: as director of the Centennial Olympic Games: Opening Ceremonies (also with Mischer) in 1997, for production design on the 47th Grammy Awards in 2005 (he also received nominations in 2004, 2008 and 2009 for his work on the Grammys), and most recently for the 63rd Tony Awards. Mischer says Bass is "the perfect person for this year's Oscars…he's an innovative, creative talent who I know will do justice to the tradition and glamour of the Academy Awards."
