Sundance Film Festival Goes to Hong Kong

Sundance Film Festival – Hong Kong Selects will offer Hong Kong premieres of eight new films from the 2014 Festival in Park City, Utah, U.S.A., with filmmakers on hand.

The Sundance Institute is partnering with The Metroplex to present the Sundance Film Festival – Hong Kong Selects, a screening series of new American indies to be held from September 19 to 28, 2014 at the new Metroplex in Kowloon Bay in Hong Kong. Sundance Film Festival – Hong Kong Selects will offer Hong Kong premieres of eight new films from the 2014 Festival in Park City, Utah, U.S.A., with filmmakers on hand.


Since 2012 the Sundance Institute, with AEG Europe, annually presents the Sundance London film and music festival and in 2013 the Institute launched the Los Angeles-based Sundance NEXT FEST (August 7 to 10). 

We'll find out the program for the Sundance Film Festival – Hong Kong Selects in mid-August. Screenings will span two weekends from September 19 to 28, 2014.

Thompson on Hollywood

Born and raised in Manhattan, Anne Thompson grew up going to the Thalia and The New Yorker and wound up at grad Cinema Studies at NYU. She worked at United Artists and Film Comment before heading west as that magazine's west coast editor. She wrote for the LA Weekly, Sight and Sound, Empire, The New York Times and Entertainment Weekly before serving as West Coast Editor of Premiere. She wrote for The Washington Post, The London Observer, Wired, More, and Vanity Fair, and did staff stints at The Hollywood Reporter and Variety. She eventually took her blog Thompson on Hollywood to Indiewire. She taught film criticism at USC Critical Studies, and continues to host the fall semester of “Sneak Previews” for UCLA Extension.
