"Gimme the Loot"

The 2012 South by Southwest (SXSW) Film Conference and Festival revealed its award winners Tuesday night at the Vimeo Theater in Austin, Texas. Audiences sampled 132 features and 138 shorts this year, selected from more than 5,300 submissions.

Juries chose awards for the Narrative Feature and Documentary Feature Competition categories, as well as Shorts and Film Design, “Lone Star,” Chicken & Egg Emergent Narrative Woman Director and Wholphin. Films in these categories, as well as all feature categories were also eligible for Audience Awards, but so far the fest has only announced those for Narrative and Documentary Feature. The rest will be announced on Saturday, March 17, with the Headliner Audience Award to follow on Monday, March 19.

Adam Leon's Bronx tale "Gimme the Loot" about two teenage graffiti artists won the grand jury prize for narrative feature.
Jay Bulger's "Beware of Mr. Baker," a profile of Cream and Blind Faith drummer Ginger Baker won the top documentary prize. Special jury awards for performance went to Jamie Chung in "Eden," 85-year-old Besedka Johnson in "Starlet" and Nico Stone in "Booster."
