Michael Apted's '56 Up' Has Its Broadcast Premiere on PBS October 14

Michael Apted’s “56 Up,” the most recent installment in his groundbreaking series of documentaries checking in with a number of Brits every seven years over the course of their very divergent lives, will have its national broadcast premiere on PBS October 14, as part of the award-winning POV (Point of View) series, and the new PBS Indies Showcase.

Arthouse Audit: 'Zero Dark Thirty' Expands Strongly, '56 Up' First Doc Hit of 2013?

Late year releases, many expanding, dominate the specialized market this weekend. By far the biggest, "Zero Dark Thirty," is mainly playing in upscale multiplexes, providing fierce competition to such already strong wide releases as "Django Unchained" and "Les Miserables."

This weekend sees the wide releases of J.A. Bayona's well-received, heart-tugging tsunami drama "The Impossible," starring Naomi Watts and Ewan McGregor, and of Gus Van Sant's divisive fracking drama "Promised Land," starring co-screenwriters Matt Damon and John Krasinski.
