Academy Celebrates 25th Anniversary of 'Do the Right Thing' with Spike Lee In Person and Brand New 35mm Print

The Academy will celebrate the 25th anniversary of Spike Lee's seminal "Do the Right Thing," with the director and yet-to-be-announced guests in person during two separate screening events set to take place coast-to-coast: one in Los Angeles at LACMA, and the other (where else?) in Brooklyn at BAM.

Academy Names Film Scholars

Who has the Academy's Educational Grants Committee picked this year as an Academy Scholar to receive $25,000 to write a book? Past awardees include writers Cari Beauchamp, Richard B. Jewell, and Donald Crafton. The Academy doles out the first portion of the grants at a ceremony on Monday March 17.

Academy and Historian Kevin Brownlow Present King Vidor's Striking Silent Classic 'The Crowd' (VIDEO)

Death did not come to silent movies on little cat feet. He burst in singing on October 6, 1927 when Warner Bros. released “The Jazz Singer.” The irony is that silent movies reached their artistic peak in 1928, something that was strikingly demonstrated Tuesday night when the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Science and the Mary Pickford Foundation presented King Vidor’s drama about one common man, “The Crowd.”

Academy Announces 2013 Nicholl Screenwriting Fellowship Finalists

Nine screenwriters and one writing team have been selected as finalists for the 2013 Academy Nicholl Fellowships in Screenwriting competition. Their scripts will now be read and judged by the Academy Nicholl Fellowships Committee, which may award as many as five of the highly competitive $35,000 fellowships.
