Annapurna and Rooney Mara Win Bidding War for Memoir 'A House of the Sky'

Annapurna Pictures beat out its rivals in a bidding war to option Rooney Mara project "A House in the Sky." The New York Times bestselling memoir is written by Amanda Lindhout and Sara Corbett. Mara will star and serve as a producer with Annapurna’s Megan Ellison. Annapurna’s Chelsea Barnard will oversee the day-to-day development and production.

Spike Jonze Previews 'Her' Before its New York Film Festival Unveiling

Spike Jonze did not have a completed film to show at the recent Toronto International Film Festival, even though he'd been working on his fourth feature "Her" for three years, and editing the film for 14 months. It was "a relentless process" he said at the TIFF Q & A. "I don't know what I'm making, I find it along the way." But he did provide a tantalizing preview of "Her," which was financed by Megan Ellison's Annapurna, via clips and a talk with his friend, filmmaker Kelly Reichardt.

In the Works: Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg Follow Up 'This Is the End' Hit with Animated 'Sausage Party'

Sony and Megan Ellison's Annapurna are partnering on a presumably R-rated comedy from co-writers Seth Rogen, Evan Goldberg (who together wrote and directed this summer's sleeper apocalyptic raunchfest "This Is the End"), Kyle Hunter and Ariel Shaffir. This decidedly not-for-kids animated film will be titled "Sausage Party," and has Conrad Vernon ("Shrek 2") on board to direct.

Annapurna and Color Force Take Film Rights to Bestseller 'Where'd You Go, Bernadette'

Megan Ellison's Annapurna Pictures and Color Force have secured the feature film rights to Maria Semple's bestselling novel "Where'd You Go, Bernadette." Scott Neudstadter and Michael Weber ("500 Days of Summer") will pen the script, with Semple serving as executive producer.
