Arthouse Audit: 'Nymphomaniac Volume I' and 'Jodorowsky's Dune' Top New Openers; 'Bad Words' Seeks Wider Audience

Wes Anderson's "The Grand Budapest Hotel" expanded wider and nabbed the bulk of attention from specialized and crossover crowds, landing at seven in the box office top ten. Career Watch: Jason Bateman Gets Down with his 'Bad' Self

Signature line: “Your average American male is in a perpetual state of adolescence -- you know, arrested development.” That utterance from Jason Bateman’s cult series "Arrested Development," which made a comeback on Netflix last year, could be applied to his own career as he continues to distance himself from his child-star past. He takes a step in the right direction by starring in his feature directing debut as a disagreeable foul-mouthed lout who crashes a kids’ spelling bee in the just-opened R-rated comedy "Bad Words."

Also in the Top 10 is "Veronica Mars" (Warner Bros.) in 291 theaters, also available for simultaneous home viewing as is increasingly common among specialized releases.

This Weekend, Drive Past 'Need for Speed' and Head for the Indies

This weekend, your best bet is to steer clear of "Need for Speed" and seek out a few indies instead. So instead, why not catch not one, but two hunky Jake Gyllenhaals in Denis Villeneuve's moody "Enemy," director Jason Bateman's "Bad Words," the long-awaited "Veronica Mars" movie, or even some sweet old folks in "Le Week-End"? Trailers below.
