Berlin Completes Competition Lineup: Richard Linklater's 'Boyhood' and Christophe Gans' 'Beauty and the Beast' Included

The Berlin International Film Festival has now completed its 2014 competition film lineup, with 18 world premieres and three feature debuts as part of the program. As with the upcoming Sundance, Berlin has added Richard Linklater's 12-years-in-the-making "Boyhood," starring Ethan Hawke and Patricia Arquette, to its final lineup. Christophe Gans' "Beauty and the Beast," starring Vincent Cassel and Lea Seydoux, has also been added.

Lars von Trier's Uncut 'Nymphomaniac Volume 1' Heading to Berlin for World Premiere

The uncut version of Lars von Trier's "Nymphomaniac Volume I" is set to premiere out of competition at the upcoming Berlin International Film Festival. This will be the only screening of the uncut "Volume I"; per TrustNordisk, the film's sales company, an uncut version of "Volume II" will premiere later in 2014.

With his documentary "The Act of Killing," Joshua Oppenheimer has reset the bar for tragi-comedy. As in, don’t even bother trying, Hollywood. Ever again. In fact, why don’t we just dispense with next year’s Oscar race right now and give both the best documentary and the best feature award to this film? It even has a musical within it, so it could take that category at the Globes, too.

Berlin Golden Bear Goes to 'Child's Pose,' David Gordon Green Gets Director

As the 2013 Berlin International Film Festival wound up, the Golden Bear went to Calin Peter Netzer's Romanian drama "Child's Pose," about a wealthy mother trying to extricate her imprisoned son. The Silver Bear for best director went to American director David Gordon Green for "Prince Avalanche," which debuted at Sundance.

Belgium's 'Broken Circle Breakdown' Wins Europa Cinemas Label Prize at the Berlinale
