Movie City News Gets a Face Lift

David Poland has given MovieCityNews a badly-needed facelift. I keep MCN as my homepage because I rely on the constantly refreshing curated links-- picked and posted because MCN thinks they will interest me. It's the most useful thing on the site. But there is plenty of original content on MCN, from Poland and others, which until now came and went and got buried. Now there's more rhyme and reason to searching for things and keeping up with the newest posts.

SnagFilms Expands Doc Distribution, indieWIRE Adds Mobile, Spout, Bogdanovich

Both indieWIRE, which celebrated its 14th birthday July 15, and its parent company, two-year-old doc distributor SnagFilms, are growing exponentially. SnagFilms, which offers 1500 films for free streaming on its distribution network including Hulu and Fancast.com, is adding new outlets. Here's a bit of Monday's NYT story:

Finke is Back: on Deadline, MCN, Film Comment and Tilda

As HBO's Tilda goes into production--and the show's inspiration, Nikki Finke's Deadline Hollywood, keeps hyping every piece of news (TV reporter Nellie Andreeva is obsessed with the show)--Finke is back from neck surgery that has impaired her vocal chords. Meanwhile, exhausted Deadline New York blogger Mike Fleming is taking a much-needed vacation. But at least Finke's trademark bile has returned to the blog, inflaming David Poland, and likely not for the last time. But he's right to suggest that Hollywood players often use Finke to advance their agendas.

Mark Lisanti Joins Yahoo! Entertainment Blogs, AOL is Hiring

Yahoo! has hired Movieline.com blogger Mark Lisanti as deputy editor of their new Entertainment Blogs. Lisanti, the founding editor of Gawker Media's Defamer, made the announcement in his blog: the Yahoo! blogs are "launching in the not-too-distant future" and Yahoo! is "continuing their recent pattern of hiring away every blogger they’ve taken a shine to." He will report to Entertainment Blogs editor Courtney Reimer (who moved to to Yahoo! from MTV earlier this year). Yahoo! has a hold on entertainment news, with more traffic than People, E!, Entertainment Weekly and Us Weekly combined.
