Cannes Market: Abel Ferrara's 'Welcome to New York,' Starring Depardieu and Bisset, Set to Premiere (TRAILER)

It's just been announced that Abel Ferrara's latest film "Welcome to New York," starring Gerard Depardieu and Jacqueline Bisset, is set to premiere at Cannes.It should be noted that this is a market screening, not in the official selection. Ferrara has been in the selection before, and distributor Wild Bunch is a major player, so the film must have been rejected from the lineup.

A gorgeous trailer has landed for Turkish director Nuri Bilge Ceylan's latest effort, the 196-minute "Winter Sleep," set to compete for the Palme d'Or at the upcoming Cannes. Ceylan's brilliant "Once Upon a Time in Anatolia," which nabbed the Jury Prize at Cannes in 2011, is an existential police procedural epic, incorporating a color palette that would make David Fincher envious and set in the bleak, haunting landscape of rural Turkey.

Euro company Wild Bunch has added "Blood Father," starring Mel Gibson, to its Cannes market slate of titles to shop. Per Variety, distributors have "been salivating" at the possibility that the film could land in the market.

Busy Amy Berg's Janis Joplin Doc to Be Shopped at Cannes

Oscar-nominated filmmaker Amy Berg has a lot going on these days. Not only did her first narrative feature, "Every Secret Thing" (with a screenplay by Nicole Holofcener), just premiere at Tribeca (where it was, unfortunately, panned by critic John Anderson for Indiewire), she also has a documentary in the works tracking sex abuse within the film industry, notably focusing on the still unraveling Bryan Singer case.
