EXCLUSIVE VIDEO: 'Kill List' Director Ben Wheatley Talks IFC's 'Sightseers'

Brit filmmaker Ben Wheatley had brought his prior two low-budget features, "Down Terrace" and "Kill List," to the Cannes market. Then he made his proper Cannes debut with "Sightseers" in the Director's Fortnight, an unexpected breakout during an unexceptional year. Then the film played the fest circuit, including Toronto. IFC opens the dark relationship comedy in New York and L.A.on May 10. See my flipcam interview with Wheatley below.

Cannes Adds New Films by Jim Jarmusch and Claude Lanzmann to Official Selection

Cannes artistic director Thierry Frémaux has added several highly anticipated films to the festival's official lineup. Fest regular Jim Jarmusch's vampire love story "Only Lovers Left Alive" -- starring Tilda Swinton, Tom Hiddleston and Mia Wasikowska -- has been added to the main competition selection. Jarmusch's breakout film "Stranger than Paradise" won the Camera d'Or in 1984.

StudioCanal and Aardman to Sell Animated Feature 'Shaun the Sheep' at Cannes Market

Europe's largest production company StudioCanal is teaming with UK-based Aardman Animations to develop the British animated kids' series "Shaun the Sheep," about an unusually intelligent farm animal, for the big screen. They plan to sell the film to buyers at the Cannes market this year.

'The Opportunist' Heads to Cannes as Sole American Short in Competition (VIDEO)

"The Opportunist," a short film written and directed by David Lassiter, has been selected as the sole US short to compete at this year's Cannes Film Festival. The short will screen as part of the International Critics' Week (see the Cannes sidebar's feature film lineup here) and is the only American short anywhere in competition at the festival.

Cannes Announces Director-Dominated Jury, Unveils Producers on the Move Lineup

The Cannes Film Festival has revealed the members of Steven Spielberg's 2013 jury: this year, directors dominate. Lynne Ramsay ("We Need to Talk About Kevin"), Cristian Mungiu (whose "Beyond the Hills" racked up prizes in last year's main competition), Ang Lee ("Life of Pi") and Japanese director Naomi Kawase will all deliberate over the best films in the main competition.
