Casting Watch: Angelina Jolie May Play Her Late Mother, Actress and Charity Founder Marcheline Bertrand, in Biopic

Following last week's news that Angelina Jolie underwent a preventative double mastectomy to drastically lower her likelihood of breast cancer, it has been announced that Jolie will play her mother, actress and charity founder Marcheline Bertrand, in a biopic based on her life. Bertrand died in 2007 at age 56 to cancer, and Jolie sites the traumatic loss of her mother as a reason behind her recent medical procedure.

Zach Braff Nabs Millions in Traditional Funding for Kickstarter-Funded 'Wish I Was Here,' Casts Anna Kendrick UPDATE

UPDATE: Zach Braff's successful if controversial Kickstarter campaign for his next project "Wish I Was Here" -- which has raised over $2.6 million still with days to go -- has now helped the writer-director to land millions of dollars in traditional funding for the project, from Worldview Entertainment. The budget of the film is reportedly less than $10 million, with funds coming from Kickstarter, and gap funds from Worldview and foreign pre-sales from Wild Bunch.

The Frankenstein-esque story centers on a team of research students who unlock the secret to bringing subjects back from the dead, but with malevolent consequences.

Screen icon Robert Redford is attached to star in the next film by David Lowery, who caught plenty of buzz at this year's Sundance with his lyrical Western "Ain't Them Bodies Saints." The new project is "The Old Man and the Gun," an adaptation of David Grann's 2003 New Yorker article.

Connie Britton of hit ABC series "Nashville" has been added to the sprawling cast of Shawn Levy's "This Is Where I Leave You," a dark family comedy starring Tina Fey, Jane Fonda, Jason Bateman, Timothy Olyphant ("Justified"), Corey Stoll ("House of Cards"), Ben Schwartz ("Parks and Recreation") and Adam Driver ("Girls"). Britton will play a therapist and the much older girlfriend of Driver's troubled character.

Weinsteins Pick Awards-Friendly December Date for Kidman-Starrer 'Grace of Monaco,' UPDATED

UPDATE: The Weinstein Company finally confirmed their acquisition of US distribution rights to Olivier Dahan's "Grace of Monaco," starring Nicole Kidman in the title role. The film is set for an Oscar-friendly December 27 release.
