Unknown James Hamrick Joins Atom Egoyan's West Memphis Three Drama 'Devil's Knot'; Joins Firth, Nivola, Enos, Witherspoon

Atom Egoyan ("The Sweet Hereafter") is directing "Devil's Knot," based on the true story of the West Memphis Three (Damien Wayne Echols, Jason Baldwin and Jessie Misskelley Jr.), who were recently released from Death Row and featured in both HBO's "Paradise Lost" doc trilogy (Joe Berlinger and Bruce Sinofsky) and Amy Berg's "West of Memphis."

CASTING WATCH: Aronofsky's 'Noah' Wants Winstone, Watson & Wife; Penelope Cruz Joins 'Counselor,' Reteams with Almodovar

Darren Aronofsky's "Noah" is adding to its ark. Aussie Russell Crowe will play the titular Biblical character, while Brit Ray Winstone ("Sexy Beast," "The Departed," "Hugo") has been offered the villain role. Emma Watson is in talks to join as Ila, a girl rescued by Noah, a role Dakota Fanning had to turn down due to scheduling conflicts.

Rebecca Hall Enters 'A Promise' Period Romance with French Helmer Patrice Leconte

French director Patrice Leconte ("The Widow of St. Pierre") will direct Rebecca Hall in "A Promise," his first English language film. The romantic drama, set in Germany just prior to World War I, is adapted from Stefan Zweig's novella "Journey to the Past." The story follows a woman married to a wealthy older man who falls in love with her husband's teacher. (Check out Publishers Weekly's synopsis below.)

Cannes Winner Mads Mikkelsen To Play Iconic Hannibal Role in NBC Series

Cannes' Best Actor winner Mads Mikkelsen ("The Hunt") will play Hannibal Lecter in NBC's upcoming contemporary-set drama "Hannibal." Hugh Dancy will co-star in the series, which is written by Bryan Fuller, who executive produces with Martha DeLaurentis. Based on Thomas Harris' novel "Red Dragon," Dancy plays FBI agent Will Graham and Mikkelsen is Dr. Lecter.

Ridley Scott has an idea for a sequel to his classic 1982 film "Blade Runner," and the original's writer Hampton Fancher is in talks to put it into action on paper. Scott and Alcon Entertainment say only that the story would pick up "some years after the first film concluded."

Lily Rabe to Play Mary Pickford in Untitled Biopic; Producers In Cannes to Cast Chaplin, Fairbanks, Griffith

While producers Julie Pacino, Jennifer DeLia, and Said Zahraoui are at Cannes to cement the rest of the casting for their untitled Mary Pickford film, they've found their leading lady in Lily Rabe (“All Good Things,” “American Horror Story” ). Cannes Market: Brosnan & Cooper in Espionage Thriller 'November Man'; Roger Donaldson to Direct

The Solution Entertainment Group is partnering with Pierce Brosnan's Irish DreamTime production banner in a multi-picture financing and distribution deal, and will be shopping the first title at Cannes, "November Man," directed by Australian-born, New Zealand-raised Roger Donaldson ("The Recruit," "Thirteen Days").
