IN THE WORKS: 'Blade Runner' Sequel, Blanchett-Wasikowska Lesbian Romance, Paltrow for Picasso & Dujardin's Next

Ridley Scott has an idea for a sequel to his classic 1982 film "Blade Runner," and the original's writer Hampton Fancher is in talks to put it into action on paper. Scott and Alcon Entertainment say only that the story would pick up "some years after the first film concluded."

Lily Rabe to Play Mary Pickford in Untitled Biopic; Producers In Cannes to Cast Chaplin, Fairbanks, Griffith

While producers Julie Pacino, Jennifer DeLia, and Said Zahraoui are at Cannes to cement the rest of the casting for their untitled Mary Pickford film, they've found their leading lady in Lily Rabe (“All Good Things,” “American Horror Story” ). The film is based on Eileen Whifield's biography, "Pickford: The Woman Who Made Hollywood."

Cannes Market: Brosnan & Cooper in Espionage Thriller 'November Man'; Roger Donaldson to Direct

The Solution Entertainment Group is partnering with Pierce Brosnan's Irish DreamTime production banner in a multi-picture financing and distribution deal, and will be shopping the first title at Cannes, "November Man," directed by Australian-born, New Zealand-raised Roger Donaldson ("The Recruit," "Thirteen Days").

In The Works: Scorsese Producing Rolls Royce Love Story; Roach, Downey Jr. & Cruise Wanted for 'El Presidente'

Jay Roach ("Game Change," "The Campaign") is in negotiations to direct "El Presidente," from "Parks and Recreation" writer Dan Goor. The Warner Bros. comedy follows an overzealous secret service agent who is relegated to guarding America's worst former president. The plan is to offer Tom Cruise the role of the agent, and Robert Downey Jr. the role of the sleazy ex-president. Vulture has the scoop.

Cannes Market: Cornish & Gleeson Form an Unlikely Pair in 'An Ordinary Man'

Abbie Cornish and Brendan Gleeson will co-star in that rare thing these days, an original script. Brad Silberling, "The "City of Angels" and "Moonlight Mile" helmer, wrote and will direct dramatic thriller "An Ordinary Man," which follows the unlikely relationship between a fictitious war criminal in hiding and his maid.
