Rosamund Pike Cast in Star-Making Role in One Shot, Opposite Tom Cruise

Chris McQuarrie has picked the actress to star opposite Tom Cruise in high-octane crime actioner One Shot. "English Rose" Rosamund Pike beat out actresses Hayley Atwell (Captain America) and Alexa Davalos (Clash of the Titans) for the role after brainy writer-actress Brit Marling turned down the gig. It will be up to Pike to turn this into a star-making role. Poor Davalos: she not only loses this gig, but Pike is replacing her in the Titans sequel!

Last week we invited you to play dreamcast with us, voting for the actors to play Taylor and Burton in Martin Scorsese's adaptation of their tempestuous love affair and chronicled in Furious Love. The results are in, and despite being completely out of the running until June 24, Natalie Portman surged to the top to join Gerard Butler. We initially paired the two together, stating: "If anyone can raise Portman’s temperature, it would be Butler. He’d have to step up and bring some depth to the rugged masculinity he so easily depicts. Portman probably has this in her, but it won’t come naturally."
