This Weekend, Head to 'Out of the Furnace' and 'Inside Llewyn Davis'

Two of the year's big awards contenders arrive in theaters this weekend: the Coens' heavenly folk music tragicomedy "Inside Llewyn Davis" and Scott Cooper's hardboiled noir "Out of the Furnace." More low-key releases are Penn & Teller's art doc "Tim's Vermeer" and Ulrich Seidl's refreshingly "Hope"-ful final installment in his "Paradise" trilogy.

Check out a new clip from the Coens' "Inside Llewyn Davis," where Oscar Isaac, Justin Timberlake and Adam Driver have a recording session for a pretty humorous number, "Please Mr. Kennedy." Driver steals the scene with his guttural and bizarro noisemaking. Watch below.

OSCAR WATCH: Oscar Isaac Talks Acting and Guitar Picking for the Coens' 'Inside Llewyn Davis'

"Inside Llewyn Davis" is as pure as the driven snow, much like the title character played by gifted actor/musician Oscar Isaac in a breakout role that should earn awards attention. (He played supporting parts in "Sucker Punch" and "Drive," as Carey Mulligan's husband.) The movie is about an artist, for better or worse, who can't be anything but himself. The biggest challenge for the Coen brothers was finding an actor/musician who could carry the movie and sing its roster of challenging folks songs, holding the screen and not sending viewers toward the exits. Isaac was their guy.

Telluride Tributes the Coen Brothers and T-Bone Burnett, Screens 'Inside Llewyn Davis'

Publicity shy writer-directors Joel and Ethan Coen came to Telluride for the first time, not only to screen "Inside Llewyn Davis" for festival audiences but to pay tribute to their long-time musical collaborator T-Bone Burnett. "Inside Llewyn Davis" is as pure as the driven snow, much like the title character played by gifted actor/musician Oscar Isaac (who played supporting roles in "Sucker Punch" and "Drive" as Carey Mulligan's husband). Which is to say that the movie is about an artist who can't be anything but himself.
