It's True: Peter Jackson Will Turn 'The Hobbit' Into a Trilogy (COMIC-CON VIDEO)

At a press conference backstage at Comic-Con, Peter Jackson revealed that he wants not only to get permission for a few weeks of reshoots next year for what could be two long "Hobbit" films--supplemented with darker material from JRR Tolkien's appendices-- but they could wind up as three. UPDATE: Now the filmmaker confirms the trilogy.

Comic-Con Wrap: from 'Walking Dead' Zombie-Proof Car and 'Twilight' Finale to Marvel Panel; Costume Photo Gallery

Comic-Con is great fun if you don't have to be in Hall H. I'd skip it and watch the panels on YouTube if I didn't want to see the early footage. The Hall H security was so tight this year that even the studio PR execs were complaining about trying to get their people in. I bargained for passes for each individual studio panel..

Stewart Talks Becoming a Vampire and Getting Sexy in 'Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn - Part 2'; Preview of 'The Host'

At the Comic-Con "Twilight: Breaking Dawn Part II" (November 16) press conference and panel, it became clear that Kristen Stewart was doing all the talking--as Rob Pattinson happily listened. She had watched all her co-stars play vampires through three films. But she wanted to do it in her own way.

Studios Go Gigantor at Comic-Con: 'Pacific Rim,' 'Godzilla,' 'Man of Steel,' 'The Hobbit'

The studios have boxed themselves into a corner. Because you can't just keep piling money into VFX to lure audiences to theaters, as their current (failing) tentpole strategy attests. And digital 3-D isn't exactly an event anymore--both "The Amazing Spider-Man" and "Ice Age 4" saw lackluster 3-D performance.

Comic-Con: Touring The Art of 'Frankenweenie,' Tim Burton Shares 3-D Footage (VIDEO)

The high point of Comic-Con remains Tim Burton's "Frankenweenie," which opens Fantastic Fest on September 20 and hits theaters October 5. First, for all the naysayers who want Burton to stop remaking studio titles and fairy tales starring Johnny Depp (as voiced by one questioner in Hall H), this is a strictly personal project that takes the filmmaker back to his animation roots at Cal Arts and Disney; the original live action short was included in his recent traveling museum exhibition.

Tarantino and 'Django Unchained' Gang Hit Comic-Con: How Serious is This Movie?

Saturday morning Comic-Con's cavernous Hall H was packed with 6000 fans, many of whom stayed up all night to gain a seat, to get a gander at an eight-minute sizzle reel of clips from the first half of Quentin Tarantino's "Django Unchained" (slated optimistically for release by Weinstein Co. on December 25).

Comic-Con: Gordon-Levitt, Johnson Talk Time Travel and Willis in 'Looper' (EXCLUSIVE VIDEO)

Of the various sci-fi thrillers on display at Comic-Con, one that intrigues me is Rian Johnson's "Looper." The writer-director came up with the idea ten years ago after reading a lot of Philip K. Dick. The concept: in the future when time travel is possible but outlawed, the mob zaps hit men into the past to dispose of their victims.
