Andrea Arnold and Patty Jenkins Have New Female-Driven Films in the Works

This Summer, master British filmmaker Andrea Arnold will shoot her first film set in the United States. Entitled "American Honey," the film will be introduced by Protagonist Pictures to buyers at the Cannes market this month. Meanwhile, "Monster" director Patty Jenkins has finally landed her followup project.

Genre Films Dominate Promising Cannes Critics' Week Lineup

Cannes Critics' Week offers a lavish week of exposure for first and second-time filmmakers. Known colloquially around the Croisette as Semaine de la Critique, the sidebar (May 15-23) boasts seven film premieres in competition, plus two out-of-competition special screenings and an Opening and Closing Night.

'The Opportunist' Heads to Cannes as Sole American Short in Competition (VIDEO)

"The Opportunist," a short film written and directed by David Lassiter, has been selected as the sole US short to compete at this year's Cannes Film Festival. The short will screen as part of the International Critics' Week (see the Cannes sidebar's feature film lineup here) and is the only American short anywhere in competition at the festival.

Cannes Unveils Critics' Week Lineup Including Lowery's 'Ain't Them Bodies Saints,' Adds Guest of Honor Kim Novak

In Cannes news, the 52nd International Critics' Week sidebar has announced its official selection of seven international films in competition as well as three special screenings. One of the special screenings includes David Lowery's Sundance hit "Ain't Them Bodies Saints," which stars Casey Affleck as a prison escapee who sets out to reunite with his wife (Rooney Mara). In other news on the Croisette, Hollywood icon Kim Novak will be the Cannes Fest's guest of honor this year, appearing with a screening of Alfred Hitchcock's newly restored "Vertigo" as part of the Cannes Classics series.
