An extraordinary Indiegogo campaign has kicked off: Ukraine's Odessa Film Festival, facing a tough 2014 given the country's political and economic situation, has suffered the loss of state funding as well as a number of sponsors dropping involvement. So the fest's taking to crowdfunding in order to raise the money needed to keep going.

Matthew Modine Kickstarts 'Full Metal Jacket' Audio Diary on Working with Stanley Kubrick (Exclusive)

Indie Fave Hal Hartley Launches Kickstarter for 'Ned Rifle,' Sequel to 'Henry Fool' and 'Fay Grim' (VIDEO)

Hal Hartley wants to finish a trilogy. And so he has turned to Kickstarter for his latest project "Ned Rifle," a third and final chapter to conclude the stories told in "Henry Fool" (1997) and "Fay Grim" (2006). Original cast members Parker Posey, James Urbaniak and Liam Aiken are onboard to star.

Unlike IndieGogo or Kickstarter, TubeStart is designed for YouTube channel creators and online video fans and offers four models for fundraising--without time-sucking stressful deadlines--that include pledge and ongoing monthly subscription options.

Will Movie Star James Franco Face Blowback for Seeking $500,000 in Crowdfunding to Adapt His Short Stories to Film?

James Franco, ever the multi-tasker willing to try something new, has latched on to the crowdfunding trend. He's seeking $500,000 from backers on Indiegogo to adapt his own book of short stories, titled "Palo Alto," into a trilogy of films. It's important to note that Indiegogo allows for "flexible funding" -- i.e. a project receives whatever is raised by its deadline, regardless of whether it meets its fundraising goal.
