TV Over Movies: from Mildred Pierce and Nurse Jackie to Shameless and Justified

Reading the papers Friday morning, I realized that I'm more interested in Camelot, The Kennedys, The Borgias, Mildred Pierce and the American version of Scandinavian hit The Killing than the new movie reviews. It turns out that I can skip Camelot and The Kennedys, which earned lousy notices. And I'm already watching Todd Haynes' gorgeously-mounted HBO mini-series Mildred Pierce, which is well-acted by Kate Winslet, Melissa Leo, Guy Pearce and Mare Winningham, but judging from the draggy first two episodes, didn't need to be stretched to five installments. And David Ulin's review made me want to go back to my fave James Cain paperbacks, which I read in my 20s. Time to make a pitch to my book group.

HBO's Entourage Season Seven Debuts Sunday, Behind-the-Scenes Video
Jeremy Piven once bit my head off at a Toronto Fest party when I wanted to talk about Entourage instead of whatever forgettable movie he was in that year. Well, I'm still interested in the HBO series about Hollywood, even after six seasons. Accept it Piven: you were born to play Ari Emanuel--um, Gold. Season Seven starts Sunday night. Welcome back guys. Here's an advance a review and a preview (below). Tim Appelo will post a review tomorrow.

- Entourage producer Mark Wahlberg is turning the hit HBO series into a feature length film, MTV reports. The seventh season arrives in a few weeks, followed by six additional episodes in 2011. Wahlberg told Josh Horowitz: the show needs to end strong before making the movie, and he believes this is the best season yet. "I am more focused on making that movie than my own films."
