Soderbergh to Give State of Cinema Address at San Francisco International Film Festival 2013

Brainy Steven Soderbergh, who has earned stripes as both indie and studio director, will deliver the 10th annual "State of Cinema" address at the 56th San Francisco International Film Festival on April 29. The festival runs April 25 thru May 9. This should prove more than informative.

Louisiana Film Prize Announces iTunes and Festival Distribution Deal for Top Five Winners

The Louisiana Film Prize has announced that it will provide a distribution deal through Shorts International for the award winners. This means filmmakers will not only be competing for $50,000 -- one of the largest cash prizes for a shorts festival -- but also for a chance to further screen at the Dallas VideoFest, Sync Up Fest and the Hollywood Shorts Fest.

SXSW Midnight Deals: 'Haunter' Goes to IFC, Drafthouse Films Looking for 'Cheap Thrills'

Per usual, genre flicks are selling at SXSW. IFC Midnight has snapped up rights to Midnight entry Vincenzo Natali’s “Haunter,” starring Abigail Breslin as a girl perpetually on the eve of her 16th birthday, fated to relive the day before she and her family were all murdered. “Haunter” is Natali’s follow-up to 2011’s “Splice,” starring Sarah Polley and Adrian Brody.

SXSW 2013: 'Bellflower' Producer Grashaw Talks Directorial Debut 'Coldwater'

Vincent Grashaw produced, edited and acted in SXSW's 2010 hit "Bellflower," written, directed and starring his fellow Coatwolf Productions pal Evan Glodell. Now he's back in Austin with "Coldwater," his feature directorial debut, which he also co-wrote. The testosterone-fueled drama centers on a teenage boy (Ryan Gosling look-a-like PJ Boudousque) sent to a privately run reform boot camp for misbehaving youth.

Review: Oscar-Nominated 'War Witch' Sees Trauma Through the Haunted Lens of Magical Realism

“War Witch,” Canada’s Oscar-nominated Foreign-Language entry, centers on a young African girl’s abduction into a rebel army, her escape, and the slow, painful process of liberating herself from the army’s traumatic, devastating reach. It is directed by French-Canadian Kim Nguyen, and is the second feature film in history to be shot in Kinshasa of the Democratic Republic of the Congo.
