Review Round-Up: 'Marvel's The Avengers': The Best Super Hero Movie Of All Time?

Stakes and anticipation were high for "Marvel's The Avengers," which finally brings together a half dozen superheroes. The take-home message from most reviewers is that the super hero mash-up more than met expectations--it set the bar higher for summer blockbusters and other superhero movies alike.

Marketing Movie Marketing Takes Meta-Promo Too Far

I once got into a debate on Twitter about whether it was a journalist's job to post trailers and posters and new photos of upcoming movies--thus helping distributors to market their product.

Behind the Lionsgate/Ross Breakup on the "The Hunger Games" Sequel

It's deja vu all over again. The director that established the first installment of a franchise is moving on. On April 6, The Playlist scooped the news that Gary Ross would leave "The Hunger Games" trilogy, and would not direct the "Catching Fire" sequel.

Ashley Judd, Kate Winslet and Jennifer Lawrence vs. Our Toxic Misogynist Culture

In the past week, actresses and their weight have been front and center. When moviegoers suggested that Kate Winslet was too fat in the 3-D rerelease of the 1997 blockbuster "Titanic," she responded that she's now thinner than co-star Leonardo DiCaprio. Jennifer Lawrence was described as not hungry enough in "The Hunger Games."

James Cameron's 'Titanic,' Then and Now, in 3-D: "A Window Into a World"

Count on James Cameron. Looking at "Titanic" in its glorious $18-million 3-D restoration--released (also in 2-D) on the 100th anniversary of the sad night the great ship went down--I was reminded of what a huge accomplishment the picture was back in 1997.

'Angels of Death' Next Up for UK's 'The Woman in Black' Series

Daniel Radcliffe's "The Woman in Black" will continue with "The Woman in Black: Angels of Death," which Hammer Films, Alliance Films and Cross Creek Pictures say is not a sequel but the next installment in a series. The first installment went on to be the highest-grossing British horror film in the past twenty years. "Angels of Death" picks up forty years later with author Susan Hill's original story; Jon Croker is developing the screenplay. Hammer Films calls the project "a wonderful new tale every bit as atmospheric and terrifying as its predecessor 'The Woman in Black.'” While  "Angels" is a continuation (see synopsis below), Radcliffe and director James Watkins are not currently attached to the project.
