When the Academy of Television Arts and Sciences doles out Emmy nominations each summer, I often wake to the announcement like a naughty kid on Christmas Day: staring down a lump of coal. Neil Marshall Talks Directing Epic 'Game of Thrones' Battle--and that Long Take

Neil Marshall is quickly becoming 'the battle director' for "Game of Thrones"--and he doesn't mind a bit. First, the "Centurion" director helmed the ambitious nautical Battle of Blackwater from last season, and now he's brought us the Battle of Castle Black from this Sunday's "The Watchers on the Wall." Like "Blackwater," this episode focused on just a single plot line, and is the most expensive ever produced in the HBO series's history.

Things I Learned at HBO's Emmy Party, from Sorkin's 'Newsroom' Status to Soderbergh's 'Glue'

HBO knows how to throw a good bash, and their annual Emmy after-party at the Pacific Design Center was a huge improvement on the sad and gloomy death-obsessed 65th Emmy Awards, which nonetheless drew the largest audience in eight years.
