Fincher's Dragon Tattoo Gets Creative Poster, Salander Profile Covers Blomkvist

Check out the latest image (poster?) for David Fincher's The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo. It's not as shocking as the one with Rooney Mara's (as Lizbeth Salander) nipples causing trouble in the blogosphere ("The Pornification of Lisbeth Salander") but intriguing all the same.

Puppet Watch: The Girl with the Muppet Tattoo; Kanye West, Kim Kardashian and Jim Henson

The Muppets, an upcoming revamp of the puppet ensemble starring Jason Segel, Amy Adams, Neil Patrick Harris, Rashida Jones, and Mila Kunis, has re-spliced their trailer into a parody of The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo trailer. Some may find it aggressively adorable, if not a little misguided. Both trailers posted below--see if you can spot the differences!

More Sneak Peaks: Dragon Tattoo's Elevator Scene Probably Not as Cool as Drive's

We know Rooney Mara (Lisbeth Salander) is meant to look intimidating in this picture, but it will be tough for even David Fincher to top the romantic and horrific elevator scene in Nicolas Winding Refn's yet-to-be released Drive. With four months to go until the December 21 release of The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, we're hoping Sony saves a few of the best images for the big screen.

Three Sneak Peeks at The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo

Even Daniel Craig has to search for cell phone reception by holding his mobile in the air. These first look photos from David Fincher's adaptation of Stieg Larsson's The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo also reveal Rooney Mara's pierced, shorn, dark look as Lisbeth Salander. The movie also stars Christopher Plummer, Stellan Skarsgard, Steven Berkoff, and Robin Wright. Columbia Pictures will open the film in theaters on December 21.

E-Books Sell One Million Copies: Girl with Dragon Tattoo vs. The Help

While Amazon is announcing that The Help, the 2009 novel by Kathryn Stockett, is the first e-book to sell over one million copies, Random House is reporting that The Girl with a Dragon Tattoo sold a million e-copies---back in the month of April. Quite a few authors, including Stieg Larsson, Nora Roberts, and James Patterson, have already sold over a million books, but Amazon reports that The Help is the first single title to rack up a million sales.

Fincher's Dragon Tattoo Characters Get Mugshots & Bios; Rooney Mara Defends Salander's Nipples

Check out these mugshots and character descriptions for David Fincher's The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo. Daniel Craig (Mikael Blomkvist), Rooney Mara (Lisbeth Salander), Christopher Plummer (Henrik Vanger), Robin Wright (Erica Berger), Stellan Skarsgard (Martin Vanger) and thirteen other key characters are profiled here (thank you, DailyBlam). Below are Blomkvist and Salander's bios--"pale and anorexic-looking and all but mute, she radiates hostility." Dragon Tattoo, complete with all its sexy-violent-controversial glory and a Trent Reznor/Atticus Ross score (listen to a snatch here), will land December 21.

Dragon Tattoo: Craig Defends Poster Nudity; Selling Film with Brutality, Sweden Learns from Fincher

News bites on David Fincher's The Girl with The Dragon Tattoo will keep on coming until the December 21 release. Now, it's Daniel Craig defending the controversial poster with a topless Rooney Mara. Why shouldn't we be offended? "People have opinions about it, but I think it sort of works as a poster because [Rooney] looks great."

Oscar Talk Mid-Summer Outlook: New Rules, Midnight in Paris, Streep vs. Close

Oscar Talk Mid-Summer Outlook: New Rules, Midnight in Paris, Streep vs. Close
Kris Tapley and I reconvened over Skype for a mid-summer Oscar Talk (below). We covered quite a bit of ground. New Academy rules affect the top ten best picture ballot, VFX, documentaries and animation, but not foreign eligibility. New members may tip the scale as well on a more mainstream selection.
