Catherine Hardwicke Bids for a Comeback with 'Age of Miracles'

In need of the right opportunity to hit another one out of the park, Hardwicke is set to direct the romantic dystopian thriller, "The Age of Miracles," based on Karen Thompson Walker’s bestselling debut novel. Seth Lochhead ("Hanna") has adapted the screenplay. River Road Entertainment’s founder Bill Pohlad will produce.

MGM Grabs Vidgame Franchise 'Tomb Raider'

In the Hollywood studios' neverending quest for brand name franchises, MGM has acquired feature film rights to the updated vidgame missions "Tomb Raider," about a daredevil archaeologist on a series of globe-trotting quests. MGM, which owns some rights to "The Hobbit" and James Bond franchises, will reboot the new action adventure based on the Lara Croft video game franchise in partnership with GK Films.

Weinsteins Pick Awards-Friendly December Date for Kidman-Starrer 'Grace of Monaco,' UPDATED

UPDATE: The Weinstein Company finally confirmed their acquisition of US distribution rights to Olivier Dahan's "Grace of Monaco," starring Nicole Kidman in the title role. The film is set for an Oscar-friendly December 27 release.

Post-'Enlightened,' Mike White Tapped by DreamWorks to Adapt 'Silver Linings Playbook' Author's Latest Novel

With the recent news that Mike White's "Enlightened" won't be picked up for a third season by HBO, the writer-director-actor has signed with DreamWorks to adapt "Silver Linings Playbook" author Matthew Quick's latest novel, "The Good Luck of Right Now." The story centers on four outsiders who form a makeshift family in the midst of grieving over the pain and loss in their lives.

When Hollywood Met Broadway: Screen Stars Hit the Stage as Stage-to-Screen Musicals (and Vice-Versa) Move Through the Pipeline

Let's face it, movie musicals are usually bad. Don't get me wrong, nobody should love them more than me: I'm a movie nerd and a musical nerd, so a movie musical should be exactly what the doctor ordered. But sometimes the whole ends up a lot less than the sum of its parts. Think pickles plus peanut butter: Just. Don't. Do it. (Or think "Rock of Ages." Exactly.) But every now and again something like "Les Miserables" happens and we remember that movie musicals can be awesome. Sure, they're bombastic and unrealistic. Yes, it's weird that people start singing on the street and orchestral music seeps out of the very air.

Andy Goddard to Direct Adaptation of Patricia Highsmith's 'The Blunderer'

Andy Goddard will direct "The Blunderer" for Ted Hope and Christine Vachon's Killer Films and Sierra Pictures, who will also finance. The film is an adaptation of Patricia Highsmith's 1954 novel, penned by by Susan Boyd. Boyd's husband, screenwriter William Boyd, is exec producing.
