'Skyfall' Early Review Round-Up: Mendes, Craig, and Bardem Rise to the Occasion

Early reviews for Bond 23 are glowing. Directed by Sam Mendes, "Skyfall" features Daniel Craig in his third Bond film and showcases Javier Bardem as the sinister villain and Judi Dench's M. Reviewers report that under Mendes' guidance, this James Bond might be the best of them all.

The anticipation for "Skyfall" has been intense, combining curiosity as to what cerebral Sam Mendes would make of the franchise, with hope that the new film would erase "Quantum of Solace" from memory and put Daniel Craig’s 007 back on track. Mendes, Craig & Co. had to deliver. And deliver they have. At times "Skyfall" is simply sensational.

Daniel Craig and pseudo-Bond girl Adele (who sings the theme song) are doing their part in promoting the latest Bond film, Sam Mendes' "Skyfall." The song does add quite a bit to this latest trailer (below), reminding us just how dashing and badass 007 is (in case we've forgotten since 2008's ho-hum "Quantum of Solace"), while Craig also appeared on SNL to help remind us of some lesser-known Bond girls from the past few decades -- Diane Keaton and Ellen Degeneres, to name a few. Watch:

Sky Movies 007 launches in the UK on October 5th, yet another part of the ongoing James Bond 50th Anniversary celebration, from the box set to the latest Bond flick, "Skyfall." The Bond channel's video promo (below) is a free-wheeling supercut of Bond car chases, including each of the six Bonds: Sean Connery, Roger Moore, George Lazenby, Timothy Dalton, Pierce Brosnan and the current Daniel Craig. As the trailer puts it -- in simple shaken-not-stirred Bond style -- "All the Bonds, all in one place." In honor of the half-century of Bonds, the channel will premiere with the first-ever Bond film, 1962's "Dr. No."

"Dr. No", the first Bond film, premiered on October 5, 1962, and Albert Broccoli's EON Productions (the company behind the Bond films from "Dr. No" to this year's "Skyfall") are partnering with MGM, Sony and Fox Home Entertainment for a day of worldwide events celebrating the spy's life in film.
