I learned at least six things from the "Transcendence" Panel at the Las Vegas National Association of Broadcasters Convention (NAB) that won’t likely be reported in the mainstream press. Did you know...

Talking Johnny Depp's Oscar-Nominated Makeup and Hair in 'The Lone Ranger'

When it came to Johnny Depp's trippy Tonto in "The Lone Ranger," there were two makeup and hair challenges: the middle-aged Native American as well as the old man (a tribute to legendary Dick Smith's Jack Crabb from "Little Big Man"). We get the lowdown from Oscar-nominees Joel Harlow, who's become Depp's go-to makeup guy, and hairstylist Gloria Casny.

Can Runaway Western 'The Lone Ranger' Make Its Money Back? Review and Round-Up

The scuttle from the set of the prodigiously expensive "The Lone Ranger," the latest movie from the producer, writers and director behind the lucrative "Pirates of the Caribbean" series, was that Gore Verbinski was yet another runaway director run amok, not unlike Michael Cimino on "Heaven's Gate," lavishing millions of dollars on building two working 250-ton 19th-century style trains (hydraulic, not steam) to run on a five-mile oval track with a stretch of double tracks, among other things.

WATCH: New 'Lone Ranger' Trailer, Starring Depp and Hammer -- 'If These Men Represent the Law, I'd Rather Be an Outlaw'

Check out the new trailer for Gore Verbinski's "The Lone Ranger," starring Armie Hammer as the title character and Johnny Depp as his partner in outlaw shenanigans, Tonto. This fourth trailer for the film continues to emphasize Verbinski's kooky visual style (sort of like a live-action "Rango," for which he won an Oscar), while also ramping up the mile-a-minute action. Helena Bonham Carter makes an appearance with a miniature rifle spitting bullets out of her shoe. Watch below.

CinemaCon: Disney Showcases Mighty Labels, 'Lone Ranger' Trailer and Q & A Live Stream, 'Monsters U' (VIDEO)

It's hard not to be impressed with the Disney empire that Bob Iger has assembled at the movie studio. It's a label strategy that assumes that if you buy the best and the brightest properties and manage them well you will come out ahead--from John Lasseter's Pixar and Ike Permutter's Marvel to Steven Spielberg's DreamWorks and Kathleen Kennedy's Lucasfilm. At the CinemaCon Disney presentation, new studio chief Alan Horn, who took over the Disney reins from ousted rookie Rick Ross, was well-known to the exhibitors, as he had been the warm and genial head of Warner Bros. for 11 years. He started out, rather oddly, stating his support of the long windows status quo, given boss Iger's known desire to squash ancillary windows and other studios' hard work behind the scenes to push back on this issue.
