Sylvester Stallone Takes to Kickstarter After Investor Pulls $250K from 'Reach Me' (VIDEO)

Sylvester Stallone's "Reach Me," directed by John Herzfeld ("2 Days in the Valley"), recently hit a snag when one of its investors pulled $250K worth of funding out of the picture. And so -- ta da! -- Stallone, Herzfeld and producer Cassian Elwes are now on Kickstarter to crowdfund the rest of the film. Watch their pitch video, below.

Casting Watch: Spike Lee's Kickstarter Joint, 'Da Blood of Jesus,' Adds Michael K. Williams UPDATED

With Spike Lee's blood addiction comedy now successfully funded on Kickstarter (its campaigning ended August 21, with a little over $1.4 million raised), the director has clearly found a preferred method for getting the word out about his films. He recently used the site to announce the casting of beloved character actor Michael K. Williams in the crowdfunded project.

TubeStart Launches Alternative Crowdfunding Platform for YouTube Creators (VIDEO)

TubeStart opened up its new YouTube-based crowdfunding platform to the public on August 20. It will be available in the U.S., Canada and Europe. Unlike IndieGogo or Kickstarter, TubeStart is designed for YouTube channel creators and online video fans and offers four models for fundraising--without time-sucking stressful deadlines--that include pledge and ongoing monthly subscription options.

Celebrity Campaigns Ignite Kickstarter Crowdfunding

It looks like all of Spike Lee's noisy tub-thumping for his recent successful Kickstarter campaign was not only good for him and his new movie but for the site itself. 47% of his backers had never visited the site before, reports the site's Perry Chen, Yancey Strickler and Charles Adler in a blog post entitled "The Truth About Spike Lee and Kickstarter" in which they defend celebrity crowdfunding campaigns.

In a recent interview with Bloomberg's "Street Smart" host Trish Regan, director Spike Lee loses his cool about the inevitable controversy that arises when a well-known filmmaker turns to Kickstarter for funding -- as Lee has for his upcoming project on blood addiction. "I was kick-starting before there was Kickstarter," Lee says. Also: "You don't know how much money I have. For you to assume what my financial state is, that's wrong." Watch below.

Zach Braff Nabs Millions in Traditional Funding for Kickstarter-Funded 'Wish I Was Here,' Casts Anna Kendrick UPDATE

UPDATE: Zach Braff's successful if controversial Kickstarter campaign for his next project "Wish I Was Here" -- which has raised over $2.6 million still with days to go -- has now helped the writer-director to land millions of dollars in traditional funding for the project, from Worldview Entertainment. The budget of the film is reportedly less than $10 million, with funds coming from Kickstarter, and gap funds from Worldview and foreign pre-sales from Wild Bunch.
