Werner Herzog to Receive Locarno Film Fest's Lifetime Achievement Award

German director and voiceover enthusiast Werner Herzog will receive this year's Locarno International Film Festival's Pardo d'onore, the festival announced Wednesday.

New Film Fest Spot Opens as Olivier Pere Leaves Locarno for Arte France Cinema

The game of musical chairs on the global film festival circuit continues as Olivier Père leaves his role as artistic director at the Festival del film Locarno after three years. He's moving on to become the General Director of Arte France Cinema. This means he is no longer a candidate for the New York Film Festival, which at the end of 2012 loses director Richard Pena after 25 years. The Film Society of Lincoln Center is searching for his replacement.

Toronto Line-up Launches Oscar Race; What Will Show Up in Venice? Fantastic Fest?

Many likely Oscar contenders are spoken for in the Toronto line-up, from Ben Affleck's "Argo" to FDR tale "Hyde Park on Hudson." "Looper" may seem like an odd TIFF fest opener--the festival has stepped away from having to book Canadian films--unless you consider Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Bruce Willis walking the red carpet.
