2013 Tony Award Nominations: 'Kinky Boots' Leads with 13, Nods for Tom Hanks, Tony Shalhoub, Nora Ephron's 'Lucky Guy'

Nominations for the 2013 Tony Awards were announced Tuesday morning, with the musical "Kinky Boots" leading with 13 as well as a best actor nod for Tom Hanks in Nora Ephron's "Lucky Guy."

The Tribeca Film Festival (April 17-28) has announced the creation of a new award, the Nora Ephron Prize. The $25,000 award will recognize a woman writer or director with a distinctive voice who embodies the spirit and vision of writer-director Ephron (1941-2012).

I loved Nora Ephron as a writer, and I was very sorry when she died last year. I had always dreamed about meeting her and becoming really good friends, and now that was never going to happen. Plus, I just liked to read anything and everything she wrote, and now that was over too.

The two-day annual Women in the World summit, to be held in New York on April 4 and 5, will feature such female icons as Meryl Streep, Oprah Winfrey, Ambassador Susan E. Rice and Diane von Furstenberg, among others. Tom Hanks, currently starring on Broadway in Nora Ephron's final play "Lucky Guy," will offer a celebratory tribute to the famed screenwriter (and fairweather director) of films such as “Sleepless in Seattle” and “You’ve Got Mail,” and a woman-in-the-world if there ever was one, who died in June 2012 after a difficult trudge through leukemia.

The Writers Guild East has announced a tribute to writer-director Nora Ephron (1941-2012), to be presented at the guild's East Coast awards ceremony on February 17. The nominees are here.
