Casting Watch: Nicholson & Cruise Reunite; Bigelow Woos Depp and Hanks; Handler Goes to War

-Jack "You can't handle the truth!" Nicholson and Tom Cruise may reunite for El Presidente, an action comedy about a secret service agent (Cruise) and a former US President (Nicholson) - both on the same side - after a threat is made on his life. While it's hard to imagine the pair being as entertaining playing pals as they were playing enemies shoved into a courtroom face-off in A Few Good Men, this one will still get plenty of attention if it goes ahead (Cruise is attached, an offer is out to Nicholson).

Portman Gaining on Gravity, Sex and the City's Cattrall and Noth Attack Critics

Alfonso Cuaron is in "active negotiations" with Natalie Portman to star in Gravity after failed attempts by Universal and Warner Bros. to keep Angelina Jolie interested. Nor did Blake Lively or Scarlett Johansson gain serious traction. And an attempt to push Sandra Bullock also came to naught. The role will be a challenge; it might as well be the industry's current prima ballerina. Cuaron wrote the script with his son Jonas, whose Hollywood Gang-produced script for a Mexico City-based thriller was also just picked up by Warners.

Women in Hollywood: Salander vs. Gilbert, Bullock Is Forbes #1, Rom-Com Actresses, Lady Gaga

- Two literary characters--Lisbeth Salander and Elizabeth Gilbert--built huge fan bases of women book lovers well before the characters hit the big screen. Fans eagerly await the news of who David Fincher will cast as Salander in the English-language version of The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo (and subsequent sequels); the Swedish originals starred Noomi Rapace. And author Elizabeth Gilbert is days away from watching herself portrayed by Julia Roberts in Eat Pray Love.

-Little Miss Sunshine directors Jonathan Dayton and Valerie Faris (teamed with LMS producers Albert Berger and Ron Yerxa) are back on board to direct the adaptation of Tom Perrotta's book The Abstinence Teacher. The project had been stalled after Warner Independent Pictures was shuttered. Production Weekly has posted Sandra Bullock and Steve Carell as attached to play a Middle American divorced sex ed teacher and her daughter's born-again soccer coach, respectively. That should help this attractive package to finally get made.

Casting News: Bullock, Pike, Mikkelson and My Idiot Brother

On the casting front: - Post-Oscar, post-James and post-MTV kiss, Sandra Bullock may be committed to Most Wanted down the line, reports the LAT, but given that the script is still in development, CAA agent Kevin Huvane sent out a statement clarifying that Most Wanted is not the next film Bullock will do. She is considering several projects, but Huvane assures: "The next project that will follow her Oscar will be chosen carefully and with a great deal of thought."

Bullock Reunites with Reynolds on Action Comedy Most Wanted

Sandra Bullock knows what she's doing. Tired of all the crazy tabloid crap, she's moving the conversation on to kissing Scarlett Johansson on MTV and possibly co-starring with her husband Ryan Reynolds on a new comedy, Most Wanted. Looks like she's following my career advice and getting back to work. This is not only good news for Bullock and Reynolds, but for Universal Pictures' beleaguered current management team.

Same-Sex Kissing, Jamie Bell for Spider-Man? Kutcher's Katalyst, Swank Gets Toothy for Carpenter

-Rumors are swarming that Billy Elliot's Jamie Bell is Sony's choice for Marc Webb's Spider-Man reboot. The young Brit is already the face of Tintin in Sony's Spielberg directed/Jackson produced CGI The Adventures of Tintin: The Secret of the Unicorn, which comes out December 2011. Could Bell really be both Tintin and Spider-Man? Sony PR refuses to comment on such casting speculation.

MTV Movie Awards: Bullock Should Have Kissed Betty White, Eclipse Clip, Cruise and JLo Dance

MTV Movie Awards: Bullock Should Have Kissed Betty White, Eclipse Clip, Cruise and JLo Dance
As I've said, most awards shows are about people promoting themselves. Wouldn't it be a great idea to get the three stars to intro the Twilight: Eclipse video? (It's below, along with clips from the Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, The Last Airbender, and Scott Pilgrim vs. the World.) Let's have lovable wise-ass Betty White and hunk Bradley Cooper give embattled star Sandra Bullock an MTV Generation award and everyone will give her a standing ovation and then Bullock will kiss Scarlett Johansson (who has continued working out since she made Iron Man 2). I would have preferred Bullock to kiss White, who quipped, "Honey, don't you ever wear that dress backwards."

Lohan in Court, Monjack found dead, Zuckerberg on Facebook privacy, Scorsese's Sinatra

Entertainment News:- Lindsay Lohan's video denying drug use and claiming to be in full compliance with court orders did not save her from a Beverly Hills judge Monday, who ordered her to refrain from alcohol, undergo weekly blood tests and wear an alcohol detection bracelet. Lohan's lawyer said she had proof that the actress had airline tickets and missed the May 20th hearing due to a lost passport, and declined the judge's offer to spend thirty minutes reading the list of reasons for the sentencing.
