Advantage: Leonardo DiCaprio over "Django Unchained" costar Christoph Waltz in the best supporting actor race, even if Waltz gets the German vote. And SAG "Silver Linings" nominee Robert De Niro, who dissed the HFPA last time he accepted an award, has not been invited back. On the other hand, Globe fave Nicole Kidman scored two 2013 nominations, for both "Paperboy" and HBO's "Hemingway and Gellhorn." While she has three Oscar nominations and one win thus far, the HFPA has nominated her eight times.

SAG Nominations 2012: Surprises Include Kidman, Mirren, Bardem; 'Django Unchained,' Phoenix, Knightley, Adams, Weaver, McConaughey Snubbed UPDATED

SAG nominees for film were announced Wednesday morning. "Lincoln" and "Silver Linings Playbook" led the field with four nominations apiece. Big surprises: Nicole Kidman landed a supporting actress nom for "Paperboy," Javier Bardem scored a supporting nod for "Skyfall" while "Best Exotic Marigold Hotel" landed both supporting actress (Maggie Smith) and best ensemble nominations.

'Lincoln' Leads Critics' Choice Movie Awards Nominations with Record 13: UPDATED ANALYSIS

The Broadcast Film Critics Association nominations for the 18th annual Critics' Choice Movie Awards are led by Steven Spielberg's "Lincoln" with a record-setting 13 nominations, including Best Picture, Director, Actor (Daniel Day-Lewis), Supporting Actress (Sally Field) and Supporting Actor (Tommy Lee Jones). Watch: Kirk Douglas Presents Namesake Award for Excellence in Film to Robert De Niro at Santa Barbara

On December 8, Robert De Niro received the Kirk Douglas Award for Excellence in Film in Santa Barbara. Nonagenarian Kirk Douglas himself presented De Niro with the statuette, riffing on the Fockers and saying "I'm looking at you." Douglas noted, "De Niro doesn't simply play a character, he becomes a character."

Arthouse Audit: 'Beware of Mr. Baker' Best Opener as 'Silver Linings Playbook' Leads Expanding Films

Yet another initially successful NY opening of a doc about a performer ("Beware of Mr. Baker") competes with important expansions of several major awards contenders across the country. "Silver Linings Playbook" kept at about the same level of theaters as last week, and held quite well. While both "Hitchcock" and "Anna Karenina" took many more theaters, performing at a solid specialty level, neither has as optimistic prospects as "Silver Linings Playbook."
