SXSW 2013 Announces Shorts and Midnight Program, Including 'Lords of Salem,' 'V/H/S/2,' 'Cheap Thrills,' 'Haunter' and "Kiss of the Damned'

SXSW announces the lineup for its Midnight and Shorts sections, including Rob Zombie's "Lords of Salem," "V/H/S/2," E. L. Katz's "Cheap Thrills," Vincenzo Natali's "Haunter" and Xan Cassavetes' "Kiss of the Damned." The festival runs March 8-16 in Austin, Texas. The rest of the announced lineup is here. The Midnight section celebrates genre film: dark, sexy, funny and weird. SXSW's Jarod Neece states:

SXSW 2013 Announces Lineup: World Premieres of 'Short Term 12,' 'We Always Lie to Strangers'; Fest Favorites 'Upstream Color,' 'Before Midnight' and 'Don Jon's Addiction'

The SXSW Film Festival, March 8-16, is celebrating 20 years with a slew of films honoring the meeting point of culture and creativity--among them 109 features announced below. Among the features playing the Austin, Texas fest are 69 world premieres, 14 North American premieres and five US premieres. Additional titles in the Midnighters and Short Film program will be announced February 6, along with the complete panel lineup

SXSW 2013 Will Open With World Premiere of 'Incredible Burt Wonderstone,' Plus First Titles Announced

The South by Southwest Film Conference and Festival will open with the world premiere of “The Incredible Burt Wonderstone,” starring funnymen Steve Carell, Steve Buscemi and Jim Carrey. The festival is celebrating its 20th anniversary March 8-16 in Austin, Texas.

PDA Releasing Katie Dellamaggiore's Chess doc 'Brooklyn Castle,' SXSW Audience Award Winner

Producers Distribution Agency ("Senna," "The Way" and "Exit Through The Gift Shop") will release "Brooklyn Castle," the SXSW documentary from Katie Dellamaggiore which won the doc audience award, on October 19, followed by an awards season expansion.

Fox Searchlight and Red Flag Debut Busy Duplass Bros' 'The Do-Deca-Pentathlon' On VOD

Writer-directors Jay and Mark Duplass headed into SXSW with an unusual distribution deal for their long-in-the-works micro-budget brother comedy "The Do-Deca-Pentathlon." They set it up at both Fox Searchlight, which released "Cyrus," and indie Red Flag Releasing. The VOD release date is June 26, and a theatrical release follows July 6.

Wolfe Takes US Rights to SXSW's 'Gayby'

"Gayby" has gone to Wolfe Releasing for US distribution. The comedy, written and directed by Jonathan Lisecki, premiered at SXSW and won audience and jury prizes at Ashland Independent Film Festival. The story, based on Lisecki's 2010 short film of the same name (that screened at over a hundred festivals), is about a gay man and a straight woman who decide to have a baby together. Wolfe's Maria Lynn says, “'Gayby' is the funniest movie I’ve seen in years." Wolfe will release the film theatrically later this year in collaboration with The Film Collaborative; a DVD/VOD release will follow in 2013. A full synopsis is below:
